Ridiculously easy to assemble with the coolest add-ons, it's a minimalist masterpiece.

I promised that I'd try to stay as impartial as possible in this review. No glossing or fussing over anything, no personal feeling, just pure hands-on analysis of a bed frame. But then, as I started writing down something along the lines of "Floyd's bed frame is the best in the world," it dawned on me how wrong that sounded—there are simply too many bed frames out there for one to stand out as the singular best.

So, I scrapped my first draft, started to rethink the angle, and arrived at the moment when Floyd's bed frame first impressed me with its sleek silhouette, fine wood, and a build that looked like it was floating in the air. That split second of introspection was all I needed to remember the truth: I chose Floyd's bed frame not based on its specs, but because it was love at first sight. Thus, abandoning all objective logic and embracing every heartfelt emotion, this is what I really think.

I developed an instant crush on this exact frame because I'm a superficial sucker for good-looking stuff—"the beauty within" doesn't mean squat to me. Most people are like that, surely, especially when it comes to furniture. But how many have been deterred from committing to a great piece of furniture out of fear of a toilsome assembly process?

Rest assured, that won't happen with this bed frame. Everything about it is incredibly intuitive and can be summarized into one line: Three large wood panels are slotted into steel bracket supports that are then tightly held together with straps. That's it. No manhandling, screw-driving, or TaskRabbit required—though I did ask my roommate for help because the panels were too heavy for me to hold alone while sliding steel supports onto them at the same time.

Furthermore, most of your muscles will be used on the last step: Looping the two nylon straps around the steel brackets under the frame. It can be awkward given the bed frame's low floor clearance; I was literally lying on my side on the floor while working the strap's tension ratchet that holds the steel supports in place. Once that's over, the bed is done and dusted. And the whole process only took me about 20 to 30 minutes.

At least in my own home, Floyd's bed frame is the conversation piece of all conversation pieces—and that conversation will likely revolve around how it stays true to Scandinavian minimalism. It's a platform frame, meaning a mattress can sit directly on it sans a boxspring. It's also modular, meaning turning it from twin to queen or queen to king only requires installing one extra panel. Yet nothing about Floyd's clean, simplistic-to-the-core design reads cheap; placed in a room with other furniture, it will stick out even if it's not craving your attention.

In addition to all that less-is-more splendor, the bed frame also has some unexpected practicality in its subtle details, like the space on all four sides of the platform edge that'll be exposed since a mattress won't use up the whole platform. It's part of Floyd's aesthetic, but I've found some perks in those open areas, like putting my Echo Dot, phone, or book there before I sleep. Lastly, the bed frame's low clearance—it's only six inches away from the floor—makes the whole thing look like it's levitating. Cool.

Floyd doesn't have a glut of customization options, but what it does offer as add-ons is brilliant stuff you'll fawn over: Headboard, bedside table, and underbed storage. The headboard is really up to your aesthetic and bedroom space needs. But the other two add-ons will, we're sure, be added to your shopping cart. The bedside table has a functional storage design and an option for built-in power. The underbed storage, on the other hand, beats a plastic shoebox by a landslide, and I intend to use it to stash my mountain of socks and underwear. Each add-on can be easily installed on your own and uninstalled when you move, and is made to last as long as the frame. All in all, a full-fledged Floyd bed frame—with bedside tables and underbed storage on both sides and a headboard erected—sounds like a worthy contender for the title of best bed frame. Hell, in my humble opinion, it is the best bed frame.
